In a move to be safer and more sustainable, a busy London theatre has chosen the Hyprolyser® iSEC Modular 6 as a secondary disinfection system to safeguard its water.
Victorian waterworks
London presents its own set of challenges when it comes to delivering safe water. Much of the utility networks still rely on pipework installed in Victorian times. Some 89% are made of cast iron, which is susceptible to corrosion, both inside and out. This corrosion is carried in the water and is the perfect iron-rich food for harmful bacteria, such as Legionella, which then collects and thrives, becoming present in the water that leaves the tap, that we use.
The theatre itself, built in the late 1920’s was fully refurbished in the early 1990’s, including replacement of some of the internal plumbing. And, although the water entering the building is treated at source, wanted to ensure its efficacy by installing their own, secondary water disinfection system.
Important considerations
There were many points of consideration including staff safety and the practicalities around the limited access and storage of hazardous chemicals associated with some more traditional systems. The theatre is not in constant use and so its water usage is intermittent, meaning water cycling is slower, potentially allowing organisms to flourish in static water in the water tanks. As a responsible business, the theatre also wanted to be as sustainable as possible.
Sustainable solution
Gaffey’s Hyprolyser iSEC system has been chosen as the ideal solution, using harmless salt and water to generate hypochlorite through electrochlorination on site.
As part of a well-managed water safety plan, the inherent efficiency of Hyprolyser electrolytic technology offers sustained disinfection efficacy in helping prevent harmful bacteria from building up in the pipework or storage tanks, contributing to safe, clean water for drinking and washing.
So, no more volatile chemicals to be transported to site or stored, just harmless, cost effective salt. Resolving the concerns, not only around access, storage and safety, but also sustainability.
The Hyprolyser iSEC Modular 6 is a low-hazard system delivering additional benefits around safety. A sealed unit that is easy to operate and requires little or no maintenance. With no technical intervention needed and automated reporting, delivered online, it is one of the safest systems available.
Gaffey Hyprolyser electrochlorination systems offer a safer, cleaner and more environmentally friendly way to provide chlorine for reliable water treatment at low cost.
