When their aging chlorine dioxide generator needed replacing, Complete Water Treatment was quick to recommend the new chloriDOS® iOX®-1.

As one of Ireland’s leading suppliers and installers of water treatment equipment, Complete Water Treatment have been a partner and distributor of Gaffey in-situ generation systems for many years, installing and maintaining our Hyprolyser® iSEC® electrolysers for several customers, including Belfast Zoo.

David Gibson, managing director at Complete Water Treatment explains, “When the old system reached the end of its working life, it made sense to replace it with the latest water treatment technology – and that was the chloriDOS® iOX® system.”

ART: Precision in any environment

Already renowned for its precise chemical blending, it now features Advanced Response Technology (ART) which further improves stability and resilience of the precursor chemical blending and generation process, intuitively adapting to seasonal temperature changes for example.

Given the facility’s stringent security requirements, remote monitoring was initially ruled out. However, the innovation team at Gaffey’s have now developed a Remote Management System, using latest IoT communication protocol via mobile data.

Retrofitting challenges

The chloriDOS® iOX®1 was easy to install, but there are always challenges when fitting new technology into an older water treatment system. For example, we had to install modified flow switches to reduce the water pressure and resolve a multi-voltage signal issue with an independent pulse splitter module supplied by Gaffey.

“It was fantastic to have Max Cole over from Gaffey during commissioning, as he was then on hand to answer our technical questions. It’s always interesting seeing how new technology can fit into an existing water treatment system.”

50% cost reduction

Three months on and the chloriDOS® iOX®-1 has slashed the university’s chemical spend by nearly 50%. “The efficiency is remarkable,” David says. “Beyond cost savings, the system’s reliability means fewer maintenance interventions and consistent water safety.

We’re confident the system will perform, and we’ll monitor chemical usage. What I can say is, it’s an incredibly efficient chlorine dioxide generation system, and we are proud to install the first one in Northern Ireland.”

Blueprint for the future

This project demonstrates the value of innovation and partnership. For the university, the iOX®-1 isn’t just a new system, it’s a long-term strategy to reduce operational costs and environmental impact.

For Complete Water Treatment and Gaffey, it’s proof that timely retrofits can deliver transformative results.
